Somatic Therapy

Somatic Therapy is a holistic, body-centered approach to healing that focuses on the connection between the mind and body. This therapeutic practice recognizes that trauma, stress, and emotional distress are often stored in the body, not just in the mind. By engaging in somatic techniques, individuals can release these stored experiences, promote self-awareness, and foster emotional and physical well-being.

What is Somatic Therapy?

Somatic Therapy integrates elements of traditional psychotherapy with physical and sensory techniques. The term "somatic" is derived from the Greek word "soma," meaning body. This approach acknowledges the profound influence of bodily sensations on our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Therapists guide clients to tune into their bodily experiences, such as tension, breath, and posture, to help uncover and process unresolved trauma.

Just as The Body Remembers – the body can let go.

Somatic Therapy:

  • Regulates your nervous system

  • Expands your window of tolerance

  • Cultivates the ability to connect with another

  • Grounding Exercises: Techniques that help individuals stay present and connected to their bodies, especially during moments of distress.

  • Movement Therapy: Incorporating intentional movement to help release trauma stored in the muscles and tissues.
